Hurricane Isabel's Damage To Our Area
On September 19th, 2003 Hurricane Isabel made her appearance in Eastern North Carolina. I have the luxury of
living on the shores of the Albemarle Sound about 45 miles from Cape Hatteras. Below you will see some photo's
of what was to become our back yard after she swept through our County and neighborhood.
The Government declared my county Washington as a Federal Disaster Area. Estimated damage to Washington County was
at last count 10 million dollars. It left more than 13,000 people without power here in Roper, Plymouth, and across
the Sound in Edenton. Flooding was still a problem in the city of Creswell (where my husband works for many days after
the storm). We spent about 12 days with no power, 10 with no phone and a horrible 14 with no Computer lol.
A big thank you to all the workers who came in from the surrounding states to help us get our power restored, and to
Ann Keyes, our Emergency Management Coordinator, for a wonderful job done as well as our Mayor and all public
officials. We were blessed that with this catastrophic storm no loss of life or injuries were incurred.
These are pictures of before and during cleanup in my back yard and my neighbors yard.
